Straight up serious top shit
Ferenc, Jiří ; Sikora, Erik (referee) ; Hládeková, Katarína (advisor)
Diloma's work objectifies humour and makes the viewer feel that art does not have to be overly serious or condescending. Ideally, the work should induce relaxation and laughter in the viewer, such as when reading memes on a cell phone. At the same time, the whole project should feel like a full-fledged gallery exhibition. The project is not so much about the themes of the individual works as it is about the method of communication, which is humour. For the art community, the thesis could eventually offer the question of the legitimacy of humour in art. The thesis is based on the assumption that humour exists in art, but is often not visible. This is due to the fact that there are not a large number of artists who work with humour in a long-term and purposeful way.
Humour in post-digital collage
Svobodová, Tereza ; Magidová, Markéta (advisor) ; Vartecká, Anna (referee)
The work focuses on the phenomenon of post-digital humorous collage, which is present in the contemporary world in various situations of our visual perception, from the digital environment to the physical one. The text will interpret internet memes, analyze the works of artists focusing on collage in post-digital society and the joke as such. According to the analysed images and collages, a series of collages reflecting a specific exhibition is then created in the practical part. The didactic part will then creatively and through humour animate the original works in the given exhibition space. KEYWORDS humor, collage, memes, post-digital art, new media, art education
A memed Revolution?: Content analysis on how Twitter users used memes as a means for political expressions of dissent during the 11J protests in Cuba
León Carpio, Luis Orlando ; Turková, Kateřina (advisor) ; Dimitrov, Michal (referee)
The present thesis addresses Twitter memes as a means for political expressions of dissent during the protests that took place in Cuba on the 11 of July 2021. It focuses on the nuances in the discourses that memes conveyed regarding the 11J protests and the COVID-19 crisis and it is aimed to the nature of the messages to understand their main features and stance and make inferences about the motivation behind the act of posting. In doing so, content analysis with a mixed approach - quantitative and qualitative, stressing the latter - was applied to the 111 memes found in a time frame consisting of one week, from 8 to 15 July 2021. The analysis permitted us to conclude that memes carried the main and simplified opinions of Cubans, made references to the political and sanitary crises, targeted politicians and their supporters as the main forms of dissent. Politically, memes helped netizens to criticize the Government, and the political and ideological system, among other things, mainly through humor; although serious memes were also present. Memes, primarily statics and recognized as a nucleus content, received between 300 to 1000 likes, and were produced mainly by common users. Surprisingly, most of them were from outside Cuba.
Internet memes as a tool of popcultural citizenship
Suchý, Marek ; Reifová, Irena (advisor) ; Mňuková, Dominika (referee)
This bachelor thesis focuses on internet memes as a possible element of political communication. Memes themselves were first investigated by R. Dawkins in the late 1970s. With the rise of the Internet, the concept began to appear under the term 'Internet memes'. The history of the concept of meme, both in its classical and internet form, is included in this thesis, alongside their definitions, as with the concept of political communication, for which I offer different variants of definition. In addition, I also present the Internet homes of memes, i.e. the websites on which Internet memes have developed (and continue to develop) and on which they are disseminated. After introducing the basic categories of memes, I focus on introducing the "Pepe the Frog" meme, as a distinctly unique meme with respect to its history and "life journey", in the context of political communication. Subsequently, I offer other formats of memes, from other categories, that have been used in political communication, but their history is not as deep and significant as Pepe's. There are examples of global memes as well as memes from the Czech Republic. Apart from the internet sources, I have used the book by L. Shifman: Memes in Digital Culture and by Brian McNair: An Introduction to Political Communication and a documentary...
Antisemitic memes on 4chan.org
Feistinger, Aleš ; Vochocová, Lenka (advisor) ; Nečas, Vlastimil (referee)
In my thesis I address three questions: 1. What are the principles of memes? 2. What categories of anti-Semitic memes can we identify on 4chan.org? And 3. how do they relate to existing knowledge about anti-Semitic propaganda? To answer the first question, I review current theories ranging from active audiences, through Internet memes, to the interaction of memes and politics. Furthermore in the theoretical section, I describe the website 4chan.org (including its boards /b/ and /pol/) and the current form of anti-Semitism on the Internet. For the research of the second question, I have identified semiotic analysis, complemented by grounded theory, as the most appropriate methodology. I present its methodology and practical use, followed by presenting results including subcategories and illustrative examples. The thesis concludes by integrating the most important findings into current knowledge and anti-Semitism and thus answering the third research question. Finally, the main findings are summarized.

Qualitative analysis of Internet chain letter phenomenon
Kozlová, Dana ; Švelch, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Kubíčková, Vladimíra (referee)
Chain letters and e-mails are a form of secondary orality. This work determines chain letters as a type of media and looks for message spreadability. The work discusses chain letters spreadability in terms of memetic theory. And looks for fairy tales motifs. The typology is made from chain letters collected from public databases and those forwarded via e-mails and social networks. It is made by form, theme and origin resulting in at least 9 forms and 17 functions. In various forms and functions their usual characteristics and differences are demonstrated . The order by origin explains some differences in the translated messages. It looks for specifics in Czech messages such as racist themes. From structured interviews the criteria of how recipients divide their chain letters and how they select their recipients was discovered. The work refutes the hypothesis that chain letters are spread only among homogeneous groups. In addition, it verifies that the circulating e-mails do not spread easily just because of effortless forwarding. According to the interviews, the main motive for forwarding is the supposedly positive reaction from the recipient.

The main theme of this dissertation is to define an image as a visual experience. The analysis of the principles of this interaction leading into introduction of the partial interactive models covering these processes is formed by the essential plane. The structure of the thesis is divided into ten main chapters in which the author tries to introduce a category of perception, a definition of the image and imitation as a tool of cultural transmission, presentation of the units of this transmission, the process of the interaction itself and analogous example of the fundamental role that a person in this interaction holds. There are also three analogies of these roles, which refer to the anthropological universal interaction describing the man as a gatherer and hunter. Their main purpose is to illustrate the form of a human experience better. Finally, there are reflections on the topic above. The possibilities and results, which...
